The Oklahoma Author Collection highlights the literary heritage of our state through a compilation of contemporary and historical author profiles. It is an ongoing collaborative effort of the Oklahoma Center for the Book and the Oklahoma Collection of the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.

The Oklahoma Author Collection strives to connect readers and researchers with information on our many Oklahoma authors. It is an ongoing project updated regularly based on recommendations from the Oklahoma Center for the Book Author Database Committee. The Oklahoma Center for the Book (OCB) is a state affiliate of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, and is organized to focus attention on the vital role of books and reading in our lives. The Center promotes the past, current, and future works of Oklahoma authors; promotes the literary heritage of the state; and encourages reading for pleasure by Oklahomans of all ages.

The Oklahoma Center for the Book and the Oklahoma Department of Libraries have agreed on the following criteria for authors to be considered for inclusion in the Oklahoma Author collection:

  • The author was born in or has been a legal resident of Oklahoma.

  • The author has produced literary work while living in the state; which could include work completed as a writer-in-residence or a visiting professor.

  • The author has written at least one single-author book.

  • The work must be available for purchase or lending to the general public by libraries or bookstores.

Authors recommended for inclusion in the collection who may satisfy one but not all criteria will be considered on a case-by-case basis, with final decision by the Oklahoma Center for the Book and the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.

Works generally not included:

  • Non-print materials

  • Textbooks

  • Periodical articles

  • Research papers

  • Thesis or dissertations

  • Government documents

Contributors to anthologies must have additional works published under their own name.
